Meet the Chichis of Curaçao....

Chichi is the Papiamentu word for Big Sister. This creole word represents the spirit of who these women are in their community - treasured role models for their families. Chichis are the eldest sister in the family. They are also, by definition, Clever Chicas.

Through this unique and cooperative artist project, organized and operated by founder Serena Janet Israel, each Chichi of Curaçao applies her unique painting style to the femme-tastic form of the gallery’s Chichi sculptures.

Each sculpture is hand-painted by her artist. The paintings express the artist’s taste for style and fashion. Art patrons can then read and learn about their chosen artist and watch her style grow and develop over time. Through this project, the magnitude of Chichi synergy is being shared—one vivacious sculpture at a time..!

The Chichis were among our first Clever Chicas.

Eight months in to our project, we proudly introduce you to the magic of Serena and the Chichis of Curaçao..!
