Rebecca Singleton’s TABS are the Ticket in Bermuda

While Spain found her first in 1503, the windswept island of Bermuda, with her Moon Gates and manicured parks, has been under British influence since 1609, when the English Virginia Trading Company settled in for good. The 400-plus years of civilized English living is the core of the island’s lively and creative culture, and Rebecca Singleton, founder and CEO of local clothing company TABS, reflects the best of what Bermuda has to offer.

From her flagship store on the bustling Front Street in the capital gem of Hamilton, Rebecca and her charming and well-informed staff share her latest designs, ranging from the classic Bermuda shorts to a complete resort line for ladies.

In addition to proffering her own products, Rebecca showcases the top-shelf products of local artisans, from the red-hot BDA Doodler line to local jams and snackies. This working mother staffs her store with year-round locals and college kids coming home for the summer, building a staff of well-informed employees who love their homeland, their products, and the chance to educate tourists like me about all things Bermuda.

During my visit, I was greeted at the door and treated like the most important Chica on the island as I tried on sizes and searched racks and shelves for the perfect treasures. As the young staffers worked to check me out, owner Rebecca came upstairs to help wrap and package my purchases. She did not interfere with their service; instead, she worked as their assistant. Impressive.

Rebecca is kind and sincere and creative and talented and proud of the kind folks she employs. In fact, it was her staff who introduced me to her, as they wanted to brag on the founder and CEO of the company that made shorts that fit me like a glove—-still more proof that Rebecca’s doing so many things right. Her attention to detail makes TABS a modern-day fashion statement grounded in the traditions of her homeland. No matter your budget, make sure to explore this store and learn about the Bermuda of yesterday and tomorrow, Fashionistas.
